Waterways
Waterways owes its existence to the Alberta and Great Waterways Railway which in 1925 was extended to the region, allowing salt deposits to be transported south. Slightly separated from the rest of Fort McMurray by a winding creek and the Athabasca River, Waterways has its own unique sense of community and character-a mix of old, original buildings and newer homes. A total of 661 people reside in Waterways. Housing types within the area include 61% single-family dwellings and 37% in the form of manufactured homes. The community houses the Royal Canadian Legion, a few commercial buildings and a convenience store.
